The controversial new biography of President Barack Obama claims that his wife, Michelle Obama, planned to leave the future president in 2000.

Is the divorce story real? Is anything in the book?

The unauthorized biography, which Klein claims is based on nearly 200 interviews, has been dismissed by presidential spokesperson Eric Schultz.

“Ed Klein has a proven history of reckless fabrication in order to sell books,” he said. “Nobody in their right mind would believe the nonsense in this one.”

Nevertheless, the Obama divorce story is the latest revelation in the book – which also discusses his ex Genevieve Cook – to generate major buzz.

In The Amateur: Barack Obama in the White House, out this week, Klein claims the divorce nearly happened eight years into the Obamas’ marriage.

After Obama failed to listen to his wife’s warnings in challenging Bobby Rush for his U.S. House seat in 2000 and got creamed, their relationship cooled.

“During the dark days that followed his defeat, he turned to Michelle for comfort. But she was in no mood for sympathy,” Klein reportedly writes.

“He had refused to listen to her warnings about taking on Rush.”

The primary left them in debt and Barack depressed, Klein claims. “Michelle actually had divorce papers drawn up,” he writes, citing one of her friends.

“Obama was so depressed that some of his friends worried that he was suicidal,” the book adds, without elaboration on that particular point.

Obama, of course, was still in the Illinois State Senate, and went on to win a U.S. Senate seat in 2004 that helped establish his national credentials.

But Michelle almost vetoed the Senate race, too.

Northwestern University professor Steven Rogers told Klein that Obama talked about his ambition after they met at a golf fund-raiser.

“My wife will not allow me to run for the Senate until I clear up the debts from my unsuccessful run for Congress,” Obama said, according to Rogers.

MTV News talks to ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ cast about Fox’s decision to enlist the two pop stars for the reality singing show.

<P><b>NEW YORK</b> &#8212; As the fall TV season continues to make news, Fox has had the most buzz thanks to the <a href="/news/articles/1685004/demi-lovato-x-factor-judge.jhtml">news that Demi Lovato</a> and <a href="/news/articles/1684879/britney-spears-x-factor-deal-judge.jhtml">Britney Spears will sit down</a> beside Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid as female judges on "The X Factor," replacing Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul.</P><P>On Monday (May 14), as talent from many of the network's leading shows lined up to talk to the press at the Fox event, what everyone really wanted to know was how these two artists might fit on the reality competition show.</P><P>Given that both have made names for themselves thanks to their own unique charms as pop stars, some of the more seasoned network vets offered up some sage advice for the reality show newbies. MTV News chatted with the folks of "So You Think You Can Dance," in the hours before the presentation where they were confirmed, to get their sage advice for Brit and Demi.</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="'So You Think You Can Dance' Cast Weigh In On Britney Spears, Demi Lovato For 'X Factor'" id="vid:768829" width="415" height="255"></div><p></P><P>"You know, I don't have any advice for those ladies," "SYTYCD" host Cat Deeley explained. "What I do like about it though is they will be able to absolutely impart some serious wisdom. I love the idea that they've been in the business for so long and since being kids and so quite often they've had successes and they've had failures on things.</P><P>"And I think the most important thing is the mistakes we make," she added. "You learn so much from mistakes that you make and I think they'll be able to impart their wisdom to the new kids coming through. I think it's a great booking."</P><P>Judge Mary Murphy seemed excited by the chance to run into the girls at Fox-related events, and even shared that she'd love to see dancer Britney make an appearance on her show as well.</P><P>"So she would be a good [guest] too if she wanted to pop on over, but I think she's going to be a busy young woman with everything she has going on," she said. "I think we'll tune in to find out what the heck she's gonna say!" she said, going on to share some judging advice. "Just try to speak from the heart and you can't go wrong."</P><P>While Murphy and Deeley focused on the positive when it comes to their highly publicized judging spots, Nigel Lythgoe wondered if the singers (Britney, 30, and Demi, 19) might be too young for a mentor-type position.</P><P>"Well they've got to look on it as a brand-new show, to be frank. I don't think they need to look at the first season. I think they've got to be honest as they can be," he said of coming in for season two. "They're both artists and artists will always couch any criticism because they know that they've been criticized, so they've got to ignore that.</P><P>"They've got to be as honest as they can be with their contestants and just inspire them to be better," he said, before sharing his one hesitation about them.</P><P>"My only reservation is they're both young and I do think that mentors should be of an age," he added, joking he fears it might put older experts, like him, out of a job. "I do think mentors have had so much experience before they mentor. At the same time, both of these young ladies have had incredible personal experience and been through so much in their own lives that hopefully they can bring that to the party too. But at the end of the day, they are going to take newcomers and literally push them through a reality television competition. Facebook co-founder celebrates two grand achievements by making his company public and marrying longtime girlfriend Priscilla Chan.

Facebook co-founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has had quite a week! Not only is he now worth a cool $19 billion after the Facebook IPO, but he also got hitched to long-time girlfriend, Dr. Priscilla Chan, in an intimate wedding on Saturday. Of course, the announcement became official when Zuckerberg changed his Facebook status to “married” and uploaded a wedding picture of the young couple.

Facebook became a public company on Friday in the second largest IPO in financial history, with shares selling at $38 each.

If that wasn’t enough pressure for a week, Zuckerberg took the big plunge when he swapped out his signature hoodie and jeans for a dark blue suit and tie for his surprise nuptials with Priscilla Chan, his girlfriend of nine years. The couple met at Harvard, when Zuckerberg was still developing his infamous social network, and have been an item ever since.

Despite Zuckerberg’s rockstar status with fans and users alike, the technology mogul has led a significantly low-key life. His weekend ceremony included approximately 100 guests, including family and friends, none of whom had any idea they were attending a wedding. They were invited under the pretense of a graduation party for Chan, who also had an eventful week after graduating from medical school. Once everyone had gathered, it was announced the couple was finally tying the knot.

According to reports, Zuckerberg designed a simple ruby ring for his lady love, who looked elegant and chic in a vintage-looking lace gown. Guests dined on the couple’s favorite foods, including mouse-shaped chocolates — a treat the couple shared on their first date.

With book-to-film adaptations being all the rage these days, people just can’t seem to stop talking about the latest hot-button page-turner and best-seller “Fifty Shades of Grey.” And with the big-screen version of the saucy, S&M-heavy tale on the way, we’re doing our best here at MTV News to keep abreast of the latest developments in casting, along with attempts to round up a list of celebrity fans.

When we caught up with in-the-know reality TV superstars Kim and Khloe Kardashian recently, ahead of the premiere of the new season of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” we asked the sisters for their thoughts on the book and its rise to popularity within the pop-culture zeitgeist. Both ladies apparently have a lot of reading to do.

“[I haven't read it] but everyone talks about it,” Khloe said. “My grandmother MJ read the first one and said she couldn’t put it down. Now she’s on the second one. My grandmother!” Khloe added. “Sexy!” Kim also has yet to read the entire story, but admitted to letting her curiosity get the best of her during a recent plane ride that involved reading over a stranger’s shoulder.

“There was someone reading it on their Kindle on the plane [in the seat] in front of me and they were a little older so the font was huge,” Kim recalled. “I was bored so I was like leaning forward and reading a full chapter.”

“I heard it’s a great book,” Khloe chimed in.

“It’s racy,” Kim said.

“Grandmothers gotta live too,” Khloe said with a smile.
